Funds raised by the Great Indian Adventure Challenge in 2004 provided bore wells for poor tribal villages near Ooty.

'Ashraya' means 'Shelter'.  This organisation was founded and registered in 1982 by a group of child welfare professionals, and has supported the lives of several hundred children over the years.   Projects of Ashraya include:-

  • Ashraya Site Crèches - a partnership with well known builders concerned about worker' welfare.   Crèches, located on construction sites, provide a safe haven for 200 children
  • Neelbagh Residential School - a school for children of migrant labourers
  • A Home not an Orphanage (Children's Home)
  • Temporary shelter for lost children - restoring lost children to their families and rehabilitating abandoned children
  • TARA, Ashraya Women's Centre - supports battered, abused and abandoned women
  • Opportunity School - a partnership between government and an NGO
