Walk in the Wilderness: Saddle Rock/Jebel Mleiha (Moderate)

Just 1hr drive from Dubai is the beautiful Jebel Mleiha, where stunning sand dunes meet the fascinating geological wonders of Fossil Rock and Saddle Rock.

From the Sharjah Kalba Highway, we will walk through a valley at the center of Jebel Mleiha up to the summit. We walk up some slippery scree to the first beautiful view point on a ridgeline, then up some more scree to the top of a flat plateau littered with metallic rock for those that are interested to learn more about Jebel Mleiha's geological composition.

We will walk along the top of the plateau until we reach the Southern end of Jebel Mleiha; stopping at another incredible panoramic view point over Saddle and Fossil Rock and the expansive desert, before we turn back the way we came.

HIKE DIFFICULTY: Moderate - Demanding
Proper trekking shoes and poles are highly recommended as trainers can be dangerous on the slipper scree for this hike. Moderate fitness is acceptable. Suitable for those new to hiking in UAE.

Duration: Up to 4.5hrs
Elevation gain: 280m
Approximate distance: 7.5km

MEETING TIME:
Meet at Jebel Mleiha at 1:15pm for a prompt 1:30pm start.
For car-pooling / travelling in convoy meet at ENBD/EPPCO Station on Al Ain, we will meet at 12:15pm to depart at 12:30pm.
We aim to be back to Dubai by 6.30pm.
There is a gravel parking lot just off of the highway.
4x4 not required.
