Discovering this land of horse-mounted nomads, Buddhist temples, ancient volcanoes, and prehistoric fossils is as much a journey back in time as an expedition of exploration. Mongolia is not just the forbidding Gobi Desert- it is also a country of snow-capped mountains, pine scented forests and crystal clear rivers and lakes. One tenth of Mongolia's territory has been set aside into a system of protected areas which provide habitat for plant and animal species that have all but disappeared from the rest of the continent. Funds raised during this challenge will go towards needy childrens' charities in Mongolia. From cultivated farmlands on the lower levels, Kilimanjaro rises through lush rainforest to alpine meadows and across barren landscape to the twin summits of Kibo and Mawenzi. Funds raised will go towards renovating the Kilimanjaro Primary School in the western part of Marangu, Moshi district, Tanzania. May 11th - 20th, 2006 The challenge will begin at the Badaling Great Wall. After trekking for 3 days, we will end up at Huanghua Cheng, followed by a well deserved 'rest day'.
