WHAT: BEACH CIRCUIT BLASTS

Each week, 2 personal trainers will guide you through 60 minutes of physical training - cardio, toning, strength, body fat burning, weight loss and shape changing.  This session is suitable to any person, of any age and fitness level.

WHEN: Every Saturday;  9:00 AM to 10:00 AM; Next sessions will be on 19th and 26th January; 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd February  

WHERE: Open Beach, next to Jumeirah Beach Hotel

GULF FOR GOOD                             TRAINING SESSIONS

WHAT: BEACH CIRCUIT BLAST

WHEN: Every Saturday; beginning November 24; 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM  

WHERE: Open Beach next to Jumeirah Beach Hotel

SESSION LEADER: Ms. Polly Wildman

DETAILS: Join 2 professional personal trainers each week for one hour of physical training on the beach that will work on cardio vascular, toning, strength, body fat burning, weight loss and shape changing.  This combination of circuits is designed to work on the whole body and increase your fitness, so it's an ideal way to prepare for a G4G challenge.

Group sizes will be a minimum of 6 and maximum of 24 persons.

These sessions are not for free, but Polly offers a massive discount to all G4G friends and participants. Just AED 50.00 per session!

WHAT: Snow Hiking Session  – Ski Dubai

WHEN: Saturday; September 29; 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM

SESSION LEADER: Gary Melhuish

DETAILS: Our friend at Ski Dubai are kindly lending us the use of their slopes so that we can get into shape for the expedition. Both sessions have been designed to give the leg muscles a real workout. In the company of fellow participants, we will hike to the top slope and back down again.

IMPORTANT: You have 2 Kit options:

1.      Wear your own – except boots, which will be supplied. This is an excellent venue to “road-test” your warm gear.

2.      Ski Dubai will provide you with insulated trousers and jackets, plus boots. If you want to wear a hat and gloves, you will need to bring your own.

These are going to be fun sessions, so feel free to bring along your spouse / partner (just be sure to let us know in advance ).

We are able to provide the training sessions because our instructors volunteer their time to help. If you do sign up and are unable to make it, please let us know in advance so that we can inform the relevant parties.

DETAILS: Those wanting to sacrifice a Saturday morning lie-in and join us for –4 °C should be outside the venue at 8AM in order to be inside by 8:30 AM. The session will end around 9:30AM / 10:00AM.

IMPORTANT: Please feel free to wear your own warm kit, except boots which will be supplied. If you are yet to purchase kit, Ski Dubai will lend you the necessary clothing (FOC). Walking poles are recommended as parts of the slope are steep and slippery. Trust us – we attempted it without poles and regretted it!!!

We will be doing this hike alongside The English College group, who's going on their G4G Everest Base Camp Challenge on October 5th.

WHAT:  Circuit Training Session 

WHEN: Friday; Sept. 7; 8-9AM 

LOCATION: Jumeirah Beach (next to Burj Al Arab)

DETAILS: In addition to the session on 31st August, Professional Personal Trainer, Polly Wildman will hold another hour – long circuit training session in Jumeirah on the free beach.

Designed to work on general fitness, this session will focus on upper & lower body strength, as well as cardio. It won’t be easy, but then neither are our charity challenges! If you’re registered for a G4G adventure, we encourage you to join us so that you can meet fellow challengers and get fit in the company of like-minded individuals.

IMPORTANT: Make sure that you bring sufficient amount of drinking water with you and energy bars (if needed). Wearing  waterproof/sweat proof high-SPF sunscreen is also advised. A towel is recommended to dry off with at the end of the session.

AUGUST 2007 Events

GULF FOR GOOD                             TRAINING SESSIONS

WHAT:  Circuit Training Session 

WHEN: Friday; August 31; 8-9AM 

LOCATION: Jumeirah Beach (next to Burj Al Arab)

DETAILS: Professional Personal Trainer, Polly Wildman is taking us circuit training for 60 minutes in Jumeirah on the free beach (next to Burj Al Arab). This session has been designed to work on general fitness and will focus on upper & lower body strength, as well as cardio. It won’t be easy, but then neither are G4G challenges!

IMPORTANT: It’s still August so it’s hot out there! Make sure that you bring sufficient amount of drinking water with you and energy bars (if needed). Wearing waterproof/sweat proof high-SPF sunscreen is also advised. A towel is recommended to dry off with at the end of the session.

WHAT: Spinning Class (20 mins.)      A great cardio workout. Anyone can benefit from the spinning programme, regardless of fitness level because you can go at your own pace by controlling the resistance on the spinner bike.

Stair Climbing Activity (20 mins.)    A 'trek' up and down the 24-floor    Al Musalla Towers. It's a great way to prepare the legs for any mountain trek.

Body Pump (20 mins.) - This will focus mostly on the lower body with squats and lunges before finishing with abs and stretching.

WHEN: Friday; August 17; 4-5 PM 

LOCATION: The Nautilus Academy, Al Musalla Towers, Bur Dubai; For location, please call 04-397 4117

DETAILS: Gary Melhuish is Nautilus Academy's General Manger and will also be the G4G representative on the Everest Base Camp Challenge 2007 (Group 2). He designed this session with the participants in mind, which means that there will be particular focus on the legs, heart and lungs.

It is essential for all UAE based Everest Base Camp challengers to attend this session. Not only will it give you the opportunity to meet up with your fellow adventurers, but it will also serve as a good indicator of where your fitness levels currently are. This session is also open to the general public (free of charge and provided you register),  but priority will be given to Everest Base Camp challengers as there are only 20 places available. SIGN UP NOW TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT.   

IMPORTANT: Please bring plenty of water and energy bars.

JUNE 2007             Events

GULF FOR GOOD                        TRAINING SESSIONS

WHAT: Bicycle Training Session – Arabian Ranches area

WHEN: Friday; June 22; 6:00 AM

SESSION LEADER: Rob Latham

DETAILS: It will be a roughly 20 km route, and should take around an hour to 90 minutes. The starting point is about 2 km off the Arabian Ranches round-about, towards Bab Al Shams.

LOCATION: Go straight over the first round about, then past the polo club on your right. The track is about 300 meters past the mosque at the end of polo club. Just after some barriers on the right, it will be the first open gate after the mosque. If you have a 4- wheel drive vehicle, you will be able to park on the other side of the fence and if you have a 2- wheel drive, you might just have to park off the road on the hard shoulder.

IMPORTANT: Please bring your own bike, and cycling helmet is mandatory.

WHAT: Hotel Stair Climbing – Dusit Dubai

WHEN: Saturday; June 16; 9:00 AM

DETAILS: Our friends at the Dusit have kindly let us use their stairwell to help you train. We will climb the stairs of this 36- floor hotel and walk back down. The “round trip” will take approximately 60 minutes.

IMPORTANT: Please dress appropriately for this session and bring plenty of drinking water (approximately 3-4 litres) and energy bars. Feel free to bring along your spouse or friends – the more the merrier!

WHAT: Trekking- Jebel Hafeet Mountain

WHEN: Friday; June 8; 5:00 PM

SESSION LEADER: Brian Wilkie (G4G Chairman & Co-Founder)

DETAILS: Standing at 1,240 meters, this mountain in Al Ain is one of the highest points in the UAE. The Trek to the top will take approximately 2 hours. Descent will take approximately 90 minutes.

IMPORTANT: Bring 2 walking poles (Contact us for suppliers). You will be grateful for the support they offer your knees on the way back down. High SPF sunscreen and hat are recommended.

WHAT: Kayak Training Session

WHERE: DSKC, Beach Road

WHEN: Friday; May 18, 2007;       6:00 AM

DETAILS: We have organized a free and exclusive kayak training session for Borneo Participants, with Dubai Paddling School (A part of Dubai Surf-Ski Kayak Club). Participants from other challenges will not be involved due to the limited number of kayaks.

IMPORTANT: Please let us know by email if you would be interested in being a part of this session! The earlier you inform us the better, because it will give us more time to negotiate additional kayaks from generous paddlers! If you have your own kayak, or know someone who could lend you one for a few hours, that would be great (but let us know)!

Meeting Time : 6:45am

Meeting Place: The Lime Tree Cafe (near The One Furniture shop on the Jumeirah Beach Road).

You will be transported to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and will begin trekking back to the Lime Tree Cafe.

What to bring: Sun block, drinking water, a hat, energy bars and a swim suit (optional). Please wear comfortable clothing. There is no need to wear your hiking boots as trainers will suffice.

Duration of the Cycle ride : Depending on the riders and the wind, approx 2.5 hours.

Meeting Place: Near JESS School (Junction 2)

Cycling from Jumeirah to Nad Al Sheba along the entrance to the palace, out around the back of the camel track and then looping back around to the camel track again to return to Jumeirah (approx 40 Kms).

What to bring: A mountain style bike, cycling helmet & gloves, sun block, drinking water and energy bars.

6pm meet at Hilton Hotel, Al Ain

Trek up Jebel Hafeet will take 2 hours, trek down the hill will be approx. 1 - 1 1/2 hours.

Bring drinking water (approx 3-4 litres), energy bars,a good pair of hiking boots, sunscreen, a hat and a daypack for your snacks and water. Wear comfortable clothing.

2. Friday, April 14th : Emirates Towers - Stair Climbing (G4G Leader : Ravi Chandran)

Time : 7am sharp (meeting time at Emirates Towers office lobby)

Note :

1) You can climb as many floors as you wish, please note that there are 52 floors. You will also need to walk back down the stairs to exit the tower.

2) The list of participants will be given to the security at the Office Tower Lobby reception, where the group need to report to gain the access/permission. Only the people whose name appears on the list will gain access. On the morning of the 14th, please report to the security at the Office tower Lobby, they will be expecting you. Don't forget to carry some form of identification with you as you will need to proove that you are the person on the list.

3. Friday, April 21st : Jebel Rowdah (G4G Leader : Andy Jackson)

6am meet at Nad Al Sheba Carpark (near the roundabout)

Trek at Jebel Rowdah will take approx. 4 hours roundtrip.

Bring drinking water (approx 3-4 litres), energy bars,a good pair of hiking boots, sunscreen, a hat and a daypack for your snacks and water. Wear comfortable clothing.

8am meet at The One parking lot (Beach Road).

Discover Dubai - Car Treasure Hunt (Fri 9th January)

Time to blow those cobwebs away and start 2004. What a better way than to have a great day finding out a little more about Dubai and finishing up with a sumptuous barbeque at an exclusive establishment not usually open to the general public. The only things you will need are a car, good eyesight and an equiring mind.... hence children could be an asset! Supporting Rick White's Indian Trek in aid of the Ashraya women and children's charities in Southern India.

Meet: Near Sulaiman's new medical centre, back of Wafi Centre.

Time: You can start anywhere between 1.30 and 2.15pm

Duration: Depending on how much you get lost, but probably 2 to 3 hours

9-hole Texas Scramble Golf Tournament, Abu Dhabi (14th January)

Lea Radcliffe, Egypt Challenger, will be holding a 9 hole Texas Scramble Golf Tournament at the Abu Dhabi Golf and Equestrian Club in Abu Dhabi. Funds raised will go towards Lea's fundraising for the Egypt Challenge to support the Sunshine Charity for foundlings in Luxor.

When: Wednesday 14th January with a 1800 Shotgun Start.

Entry Fee: 100Dhs per person.

Bookings: From the beginning of January. (Lea is currently negotiating with the Club to see if they will be prepared to drop the Green Fees for non-members.)
