What to Pack

Attire Recommendation

As March marks Ethiopia’s warm season, it’s important to pack appropriate attire for your trip. In Addis Ababa, the average high temperature will be approximately 23.3°C, with an average low temperature of 11.2°C. When it comes to footwear, make sure to pack sports shoes, hiking shoes, and flip-flops or slippers, along with socks. As for apparel, bring along tee-shirts, quick-dry T-shirts, and hiking pants or trousers for daytime wear. You may also need a light sweater for cooler nights.

Lastly, don’t forget to pack an umbrella, as you may encounter sporadic rain during your trip!

What to Pack

Essential Kit List

Make sure to pack essentials such as water, which is readily available from local supermarkets, wipes and/or hand sanitizers for cleanliness, a hat and sunglasses for sun protection, strong sunscreen, chapstick or lip balm for lip care, and a travel adapter plug if your devices are not designed for the local voltage (220V – same as in UAE). Don’t forget your personal kit including a toothbrush, personal medicines, tissue or toilet paper for bathroom use, and snacks that are easy to prepare. Lastly, bring along a camera to capture and remember the moments during your journey!

What to Pack

Donation Items

If you have extra space in your suitcase, consider bringing along the following items for donation:

  • Donated shoes are always in high demand.
  • Coloring books, worksheets, and teaching aides like flip cards and posters can greatly benefit the children.
  • Hair accessories for the girls and decorations such as beads and glitter can bring joy.
  • Blue Tac and milk powder are also appreciated.

Please refrain from bringing sweets as the children do not have regular access to water or dental products for brushing their teeth. Additionally, stationery items mentioned above can be purchased in Addis Ababa if you prefer not to carry them during your travels.
